PURPOSE:To obtain high light response gain, by adding a specified cyanine pigment as a charge generating material and a specified 4,4'-biphenyl-diphenylamine as a charge transfer material to a photoconductive layer. CONSTITUTION:A cyanine pigment represented by the general formulaI(R1, R2 are each optionally substituted alkyl or aryl; n is 0, 1, 2, or 3; H of vinylene chains may be substituted for a functional group, such as phenyl, alkoxy, NO2, CN, or halogen; and the formula III represents a heterocyclic group; and X<-> is an anionic functional group) is used as a charge generating material, and a biphenyl compound represented by the formula II (X is CH3 or Cl) is used as a charge transfer material. Said charge generating material is contained in a charge generating layer, and said charge transfer material is contained in a charge transfer layer to form a laminate type photoconductive layer on a conductive substrate, or both the materials are contained in a single photoconductive layer, thus permitting an electrophotographic receptor high in photosensitivity and small in light loss to be obtained.
