Abstract

CONSTITUTION:A positive electrode 1 whose active material is manganese dioxide, a separator 2, a negative electrode 3 made of a light metal such as lithium are placed in a positive case 4. After that, an insulating gasket 6 is interposed between the positive case 4 and a negative outer lid 4, which is placed on the negative electrode 3, to hermetically seal the battery, and the whole constitutes an organic- solvent battery. Manganese dioxide which is used for the active material of the positive electrode of such a battery is prepared by adding sodium chlorate to an acidic manganese-sulfate solution, which is made acidic by the addition of sulfuric acid and heated to be 90 deg.C, to make the mixture undergo an oxidation synthesis.
