Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent the battery expansion which accompanies an electric discharge by using a metal sulfide as a positive active material, and by adding an alkyl halide to a nonaqueous electrolyte of a battery whose negative active material is metal lithium. CONSTITUTION:A positive electrode 1 prepared by compressing and moulding a mixture is packed in a positive-electrode can 2, and an electrolyte absorber 3 is placed on the electrode 1. At the same time, an annular gasket 4 having an L- shaped cross-section is interposed in the space between the absorber 3 and the can 2. After that, a negative electrode 7 of metal lithium is packed inside the inner wall of a negative tab 5, with a stainless net 6 interposed between them. The end of the negative tab 5 is inserted into the gasket 4 to hermetically seal the battery, thus forming a button-type battery with a nonaqueous electrolyte. A positive active material of such a battery is a metal sulfide such as ferrous sulfide, ferric sulfide, iron disulfide, copper sulfide or nickel sulfide. Furthermore, an alkyl halide is added to the nonaqueous electrolyte, and the added amount is preferred to be below 20wt%.
