Abstract
PURPOSE:To make the discharge voltage of an organic solvent battery to be flattened by adding a given amount of solid carbon fluoride to manganese dioxide, which is subjected to heat treatment at a given temperature and is contained in a positive electrode in the battery. CONSTITUTION:A pellet positive electrode 1 principally containing manganese dioxide, a separator 3 impregnated with an organic electrolyte, and a negative electrode 2 made of metal lithium are placed in a positive case 4 which also serves as a positive terminal. The negative electrode 2 is covered with a negative outer lid 6 which also serves as a negative terminal, with an insulating gasket 5 interposed between the case 4 and the lid 6. After that, the opening end of the case 4 is curved to hermetically seal the battery, and the whole constitutes a button-type organic solvent battery. The former manganese dioxide used for the positive electrode 1 is subjected to heat treatment at 400-490 deg.C for 2-3hr before use. The positive electrode 1 is manufactured by adding below 25wt% of solid carbon fluoride to the former manganese dioxide, before the mixture is added and mixed with a conductive material and a binding agent, such as styrene-butadiene rubber, and this mixture is molded.
