Abstract

PURPOSE:To decrease the internal resistance, and increase the preservation performance of an organic electrolyte battery by immersing the electrode in an organic electrolyte containing a solute of high concentration before the electrode is used in assembling the battery. CONSTITUTION:A positive electrode 4 is formed by pressing and molding a positive mixture prepared by mixing an active material powder such as copper oxide, manganese dioxide or graphite fluoride with a conductive material powder. The electrode 4, before it is used in assembling a battery, is satisfactorily immersed in an organic electrolyte containing a solute of high concentration until the electrolyte fully penetrates into the electrode 4 and equilibrium is reached: vacuum impregnation is performed if necessary. For instance, a positive electrode 4 formed by pressing and molding a mixtue of copper oxide and graphite, is immersed in an electrolyte prepared by saturating an organic mixture solvent of propylene carbonate and 1,2-dimethoxyethane with lithium perchlorate (about 2.2mol/l), and is left over night. A battery is assembled by use of thus treated positive electrode 4, and the former electrolyte of 1mol/l concentration is poured in the battery before it is hermetically sealed, thereby the battery being completed. Consequently, the internal resistance can be reduced by 3-20%, and the preservation performance can be increased.
