CONSTITUTION:Manganese dioxide is stored under a humidity atmosphere so that the moisture content of manganese dioxide does not exceed about 2 percent, by weight, as measured immediately prior to injection of an electrolyte. This manganese dioxide is mixed with graphite powder and the mixture is compressed and formed into a positive electrode composite material 2 and is arranged in a positive electrode case 1. On this positive electrode composite matermial 2, a separator 3, an electrolyte impregnating material 4, a gel negative electrode 5 made of zinc iodide powder containing thickener, and a sealing plate 6 which acts also as a negative electrode terminal are arranged to make up an alkali manganese battery.
