Abstract

PURPOSE:To reduce the amount of a conductive agent used for preparing the positive electrode of an organic electrolyte battery, and enhance the characteristics of the positive electrode by using a carbon fluoride positive electrode containing both carbon, which is a raw material for carbon fluoride, as the main conductive agent, and carbon black as the auxiliary conductive agent. CONSTITUTION:The carbon fluoride positive electrode of a battery contains a mixed conductive agent consisting of both carbon powder, which is a raw material for carbon fluoride, as the main conductive agent, and carbon black as the auxiliary conductive agent. For instance, carbon fluoride powder prepared by subjecting petroleum coke to halogenation with fluorine, petroleum coke, acetylene black, and a binding agent made of an aqueous dispersion of a styrene-butadiene rubber (containing 50wt% of the resin) are mixed in a ratio by weight of 100:10:10:12, before water contained in the mixture is evaporated. Following that, thus prepared mixture is compressed with a collector made of a titanium net buried in it, thereby a positive electrode of 1mm. thickness being obtained. The battery is constituted by combining thus obtained positive electrode with both a negative electrode made of a light metal and an organic electrolyte. Through the means mentioned above, only a small amount of the former conductive agent is used in preparing the positive electrode. Besides, the discharge characteristic of the positive electrode is enhanced, since the former conductive agent is mixed well with the active material of the positive electrode.
