Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain a perfect flocculant which is perfectly decomposed in soil without giving any adverse influence upon living things at all in the natural ecological systems, by treating the sludge being discharged from the activated sludge process of waste water treating process then neutralizing the same with inorganic acids.
CONSTITUTION: An activated sludge treating tank 1 is provided in sewer and waste water treating process and the sludge component produced in the activated sludge treatment is sedimented and separated by a final sedimenting tank 2. A portion of the sludge extracted from the tank 2 is used as return sludge 3 into the tank 1 and the rest is transferred as excess sludge 4 to the sludge treatment process. It is taken out from the extraction line of the tank 2 as raw material sludge. Preferably it is dehydrated by a dehydrator 5, and is led into a tank 6, where it is treated with alkalis such as caustic soda and is thereby gelled. The amount of alkali addition is made ≤1% as a whole and preferably in a range of 0.1W0.3%. In a tank 7, it is neutralized by inorganic acids such as hydrochloric acids and is made into sol to have suitable characteristics as a flocculant. The pH after the neutralization is kept in a range of 5W7.
