Abstract

PURPOSE: To improve a magnetic flaw detector in reliability and to obtain a ready judgment by applying a current to a calibration coil adjacent to a portion of the detection coil.
CONSTITUTION: A traveling rope 1 under test, is passed through holes of a pair of pole pieces 4a and 4b of an exciter 2, and a given section of the rope is magnetized by the electromagnetic force of an exciter body 3 comprising an electromagnetic coil. The power for the electromagnetic coil of the exciter body 3 is supplied from a power source 5 comprising a transformer 5a, rectifier 5b, and smoothing circuit 5c. Thus, if the rope 1 has such damage as broken wires, the magnetic flux in the rope 1 is disordered, so that a leakage flux is produced on the surface. The interlinkage of the leakage flux to a detection coil 6 around the circumference of the rope 1 causes a minute voltage to be induced in the detection coil 6. The induced voltage is amplified in an amplifying unit 7, and recorded as a damage signal on a recorder 8.
