Abstract

PURPOSE: To eliminate the need for a magnetic shielding plate for the coil mold of the detection coil in a magnetic flaw detector by forming the coil mold of conductive nonmagnetic material, which is grounded.
CONSTITUTION: A traveling rope 1 under test is passed through holes of a pair of pole pieces 4a and 4b of an exciter 2, and a given section of the rope is magnetized by the electromagnetic force of an exciter body 3 comprising an electromagnetic coil. The power for the exciter body 3 is supplied from a power source 5 comprising a transformer 5a, rectifier 5b, smoothing circuit 5c, or the like. Thus, if the rope 1 has such damage as broken wires, the magnetic flux in the rope 1 is disordered, so that a leakage flux is produced on the surface. Consequently, a minute voltage is induced in a detection coil 6, and recorded as a damage signal on a recorder 8. Since a coil mold 9 wound around the detection coil 6 is formed of a conductive nonmagnetic material and grounded, external noises, which are allowed to escape, substantially have no effect on the detection coil 6.
