PURPOSE:To make the magnetical gaps between a structural member to be measured and a magnetic sensor constant and reduce the influence of the variance in the gaps by mounting a mon-magnetic insulator to each magnetic pole end of the magnetic sensor and providing a shealding plate thereto. CONSTITUTION:A thin plate 6 consisting of an abrasion resistant insulating material and a non-magnetic material is affixed to each magnetic pole end face of a U-shaped magnetic core 3 wound with excitation coils 1 and magnetic flux detection coils 2 to be put in abutment on a structural member 4 applied with a paint film 5 such as rust inhibitor. A shielding plate 7 consisting of a non- magnetic good conductor, for example, copper plate for shielding the magnetic flux leaking between magnetic flux legs is disposed between the magnetic pole legs.
