Abstract

PURPOSE: To detect a specified position of a rope accurately, by making the magnetic permeability of a specified part of a rope different from that of other parts, and detecting the change of such magnetic permeability with an electromagnetic coil.
CONSTITUTION: A wire rope 1 has a plurality of wire bundles 3 stranded around a hemp core 3, and has metal bodies 4 made of, for example, the same wire rod as the wire bundles 2 provided near the center of the hemp core 3. By disposing the metal bodies 4 in specified positions of the wire rope 1 by the length of several centimeters, this part has a magnetic permeability difference from that of the other parts. In this setting an electromagnetic coil not illustrated which magnetically binds with the wire rope 1 is provided, and the position of the wire rope 1 is detected by the change of the electrical signal corresponding to the change of the magnetic permeability of the wire rope 1 generated from this electromagnetic coil 1. Hence, a specified position of the wire rope 1 may be accurately detected.
