Abstract

PURPOSE: To make it possible to detect flaws on the surface, and in superficial and inner portions, of a magnetic material, by magnetizing the magnetic material with a source of magnetization having a frequency lower than a commercial frequency.
CONSTITUTION: An electromagnet 3 is placed on an objective portion of a magnetic material 7 to be inspected. An AC current having a frequency lower than a commercial frequency, for examply, a frequence of 1Hz is applied from a frequence converter 2 to the electromagnet 3 to excite the same as magnetic powder 8 is scattered between both of the magnetic poles. When the magnetic material 7 has a flaw 9, the scattered magnetic powder 8 is drawn by a leakage magnetic flux to be gathered on that portion of the surface of the magnetic material 7 which is just above the flaw 9. Thus, the existence of a flaw on or in a magnetic material can be ascertained.
