Abstract

PURPOSE:To detect a defect of a pipe together with its kind by executing an eddy current flaw detection by two high and low frequencies, and using OR of a result of the respective flaw detections, as a flaw detecting output. CONSTITUTION:Signals of two high and low frequencies are supplied from a device body 5 to a coil 5 for eddy current flaw detection provided on the periphery of a base body 1, and at every respective frequencies, an eddy current flaw detection is executed by eddy current flaw detecting means 6u, 6e. Also, to a DC magnetizing coil 7, a DC current is supplied from a DC current supply means 8, and a ferromagnetic material pipe 2 is brought to a magnetic saturation. Subsequently, a cable moving device is operated, and an eddy current flaw detection is executed by operating the DC current supply means 8 and an eddy current flaw detecting means 6, while moving the base body 1 through a cable. The frequency by which an S/N of a detecting output of a defect becomes maximum against a flaw detection frequency is different by decreased thickness and a through-hole, namely, the kind of the defect, therefore, OR of a result of flaw detection of every two high and low frequencies corresponding to each of the kind of the detect becomes a flow detecting output.
