Abstract

PURPOSE: To economically recover rhodium dissolved in waste water with high efficiency by adjusting the water to a predetermined pH with an alkali, depositing a rhodium compound in the presence of activated carbon, and separating it.
CONSTITUTION: Rhodium-contg. acidic waste water especially acidified with phosphoric acid is adjusted to 12.5W13.5 pH with an alkali such as NH3, and an adequate amount of powdered or granular activated carbon is added. The carbon may be added before adding the alkali. A rhodium compound is deposited and subjected to solid-liq. separation with a filter face precoated with a filter aid such as diatomaceous earth or pearlite to economically recover the rhodium dissolved in the water with high efficiency. By combining this method with a conventional combustion recovering method, rhodium can be recovered at a very high rate.
