Abstract

PURPOSE: To separate and recover Rh from Rh plating waste liquor in a high yield by making the liquor strongly acidic with an acid, adding iron dust to generate hydrogen, and reducing Rh with this hydrogen to precipitate rhodium black.
CONSTITUTION: Waste liquor of electroless Rh plating is adjusted to a strongly acidic range of pH ≤0.1 with an acid such as concd. hydrochloric acid. After adding electrolytic iron dust to generate hydrogen the liquor is allowed to stand. The generated hydrogen acts as a reducing agent to reduce Rh compounds in the liquor, thus precipitating black so-called rhodium black. By filtering and drying the precipitate, Rh in the waste liquor is separated from other substances and recovered in a high yield of 99% or more.
