PURPOSE:To enhance the discharge characteristics and the preservation characteristics of a nonaqueous battery by conducting dielectric heating of a manganese doixide used for an active material in an inactive atmosphere to dehydrate that. CONSTITUTION:A collector 6 is welded on the inner surface of a case 1. A positive electrode 5 made of manganese dioxide, a separator 7 and a liquid-holding material 8 are placed on the collector 6, in that order. A negative electrode 4 made of lithium is placed in a sealing plate 2 with a grid 3 interposed between them, and the negative electrode 4 is placed on the liquid-holding material 8. At the same time, a gasket is interposed between the case 1 and the sealing plate 2 to hermetically seal the battery, thus constituting a nonaqueous-electrolyte battery. The manganese dioxide used for the positive electrode 5 is prepared by removing the bound water of a hydrated manganese-dioxide by dielectric heating, for example, by the irradiation of an electronic-oven microwave. Here, the dehydration treatment is performed in an inactive atmosphere. The hydrated manganese-dioxide used here is preferred to be electrolytic manganese-dioxide, especially the gamma-phase compound.
