Abstract
PURPOSE:To attain a high flow rate in a bypass circuit by setting a contraction vlave body provided for a thermally actuated expansion unit, at the opening position in case where the temperature of water is relatively low when its circulation within a radiator circuit is interrupted by closing a thermally actuated valve. CONSTITUTION:A thermally actuated valve 16 for controlling a cooling water circulation channel is provided at a point where a duct 14 connecting the cooling water exit of an engine 12 with the cooled water entrance of a radiator 13 is forked or joined with one end of a bypass duct 15. The thermally actuated valve 16 is made in such a fashion that a circular valve seat 2 is provided inside a frame 1 and the end of a plunger 4 aithin a wax-used thermally actuated exapansion unit 3 is securely fixed. a ringlike main valve body 7 is fit as freely slidable around on a retainer 6 for one end of a housing 5 of the unit 3 and pressed in the closing direction by virtue of a spring 8. A contraction valve body 9 inserted in the bypass duct 15 with a clearance is attached to one end of the housing 5. A suspension spring 11 of a low spring constant is placed between the main valve body 7 and a bearing shoe 10 above the retainer 6.
