Abstract
1308936 Valves RANCO CONTROLS Ltd 6 Oct 1970 47552/70 Heading F2V Thermostatic valve, e.g. for the passenger compartment heating system of a motor vehicle, where the valve controls the flow of hot coolant from the engine through an air heater, comprises a body 20, 21 with inlet and outlet 3, 3a, and a valve member 5, 7 movable by a stem 6 which extends out of the body. The free end of the stem is engaged by a temperature responsive expansible power means 28, 29 supported in a housing 25 which is mounted for axial movement without rotation. The range is set by a rotatable actuator 34 which surrounds the housing 25 and serves to adjust the housing and thence the power means 28, 29 axially. As shown, legs 26 of the housing 25 engage between splines 24 on the body 20. These legs have projections 41 engaged in a recess 42 in the actuator 34 which has cam tracks 32 engaging pegs 31 on the body 20. The two-part body 20, 21 is of plastics material, e.g. nylon, the parts being weldable, e.g. by friction welding at an interface 22 in a selected angular relationship between flanges (40, 46), Fig. 1 (not shown), to suit different mounting arrangements. The actuator 34 is operated by a Bowden cable.
