Abstract

1,129,404. Valves. VAUXHALL MOTORS Ltd. 26 Jan., 1967 [17 March, 1966], No. 11716/66. Heading F2V. [Also in Division F4] A valve arrangement particularly for use in a motor vehicle radiator comprises two poppet valves 1, 2 in which the stem 15 of valve 2 is in slidable telescopic engagement with the hollow stem 14 of valve 1. Two bellows thermostats 5 are arranged to actuate the valves sequentially. One of said thermostats 5 actuates the opening of valve 1 allowing warm coolant to flow from 'an inlet 11 through section 7 of a radiator 10. Any subsequent rise in the temperature of the incoming coolant causes the second thermostat 5 to actuate further opening of valve 1 such that its head engages a collar 3 on valve 2 and opens valve 2 against the loading of a spring 4, thus permitting coolant to flow also through section 6 of the radiator 10.
