Abstract
1,082,501. Heating vehicles; engine cooling systems. L. GARDNER & SONS Ltd. May 4, 1966 [June 4, 1965], No. 23880/65. Heading F4U. A vehicle heating system comprises three parallel circuits for engine coolant, namely a radiator circuit RC, a radiator by-pass circuit BC and a heating circuit HC, and temperatureresponsive valve means 7 common to all three circuits. At low temperatures valves 8 and 9 close outlets 12, 13 to circuits RC and HC and coolant flows through outlet 11 to circuit BC. As the coolant temperature rises valve 9 gradually closes outlet 11 while opening outlet 13 so that eventually all the coolant flows to circuit HC. If the temperature continues to rise valve 8 gradually opens outlet 12 while closing a port 15 communicating with valve 9 so that eventually all the coolant flows through circuit RC. Circuit HC comprises a ring pipe sized to accept the full coolant flow and cookcontrolled heating units 16 connected in parallel across the pipe.
