Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a supplemental air controlling system, excellent in durability and accuracy, by providing a means for increasing and decreasing the flow rate of supplemental air in a bypass passage bypassing the throttle valve, and controlling said means by a temperature-sensitive section formed in an enclosed chamber.
CONSTITUTION: At the time of cold starting of engine, end portion 142 of bimetal 132 located at the central position is located at a position turned relatively to the right since ambient temperature is low, and opening area of opening 164 is determined by window 162 to suit the ambient temperature. Therefore, such an amount of supplemental air as suited for cold starting is passed through passages 108, 109. As the temperature rises after starting of engine, current supplied to heater 128 is increased and bimetal 132 is heated. Resultantly, the central end portion 142 of bimetal 132 is turned to the left and hence shutter 150 is also turned to the left, so that opening 164 is closed gradually by window 162 to decrease the amount of supplemental air passed therethrough. When the engine is warmed up subsequently, opening 164 is completely closed by shutter 150.
