Abstract

PURPOSE:To dispose display elements in a high density and reduce the number of lead terminals by laminating with interposed insulation plates a plurality of display elements, each of which is made of an insulation plate and has a pair of discharge electrodes, one on one side of the insulation plate and the other on the other side thereof, and by making the top faces of said elements as light emitting portions. CONSTITUTION:Each display element 8 is obtained by forming an anode 2 on one side of an insulation plate and a cathode on the other side of the insulation plate, which is shaped into a rectangle in its cross-section. A plurality of elements 8 are laminated with insulation plates 10 interposed between each two adjacent elements 8. A light emitting display portion 7 is constituted by coating a fluorescent material 6 on the top face of each element 8, which face extends between both sides of the insulation plate. By adding a memory circuit to the thus-formed display device, the light-emitting time of each display portion 7 can be kept long and its brightness can be increased, as well as by wiring each anode 2 and cathode in such a way that a matrix is constructed in a single piece of each display element 8 the number of lead terminals can be reduced substantially while assuring sufficient brightness.
