Abstract
PURPOSE: To provide a high hardness sintered body for tools having excellent toughness andwear resistance, by blending each specific amount of specific high pressure phase type boron nitride, transition metals, Al, Cu, Ni and Co.
CONSTITUTION: High pressure phase type boron nitride has a mean particle size of 10μ and occupies 20W90vol% of the entirety. For the bonding of CBN, a material comprising one element or a mixture or mutual solid solution of two or more elements of Ti- Zr, Hf, V, Nb, Ta, Cr, Mo, and W that are groups IVa, Va and VIa transition metals of the periodic table, and an aluminum compound, the content of Al being 5W30wt% is employed. Further, the bonded phase contains 1W50wt% of Cu or Cu plus Ni and/or Co of Fe group metals. These substances are, in powder form or afte molding, sintered under a pressure of 20Kb or higher, preferably 30W 70Kb at a temperature of 900°C or higher, preferably 1,100W1,500°C using a super high pressure high temperature unit.
