PURPOSE:To eliminate the nonuniformity of concentration due to the change of recording period by applying a preheating dummy pulse when the period of electrifying pulse exceeds a given time in a recording method in which the electrifying pulse for recording is applied to a heating resistor. CONSTITUTION:Since, during minimum recording period t17(404), the pulse width t16 of an electrifying pulse 401 to be applied to a heating resistor is so set so that the peak temperature of the heating resistor becomes T0, the peak temperature of the heating resistor also becomes T0 in the case of the first and second electrifying pulses 401a and 401b which were inputted at a recording period t17. In case where the recording period is long, t12, a dummy pulse 402 of a pulse width t15 and a period t14 is inputted from the time Zt17 to preheat the heating resistor. Thus, during the period when the third electrifying pulse 401c is applied, the surface temperature of the resistor becomes equal to that during the period when the first pulse 401a is applied, and therefore, energy to be applied to a recording medium is made constant.
