Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent a picture from changing in density with the passage of time, by a method wherein a pulse signal, having a width being proportioned to a picture density applied to a heater, is modulated into a signal consisting of a plurality of pulses having a width which is sufficiently narrower than that of aforesaid pulse. CONSTITUTION:In a forming method for a tonal picture in which a thermal head C having a plurality of heaters B on a substrate A is used, a picture signal alpha, which is outputted to the heaters B, is sent as a pulse current having a pulse width L being proportioned to a picture element density, but is modulated for applying. That is, the picture signal alpha is expanded by a given ratio by means of a pulse width expander to produce a pulse current beta. Then, said pulse current beta is inputted to the one terminal of an AND gate 10 always inputting a pulse, which has a width being enoughly narrower than that of the pulse of the picture element signal alpha, through the other terminal thereof from a pulse generator 11, and is inputted to a heater B of a thermal head C as a modulated picture element signal alpha (consisting of a plurality of pulse groups, and besides, the sum of widths of the pulse groups is equal to L).
