Abstract
PURPOSE:To record a gradation image easily and stably by thermal recording, by a method wherein a plurality of heating elements are provided corresponding to one side of each picture element, while a plurality of times of paper feeds are made to correspond to another side of the picture element so as to regulate the color-developing area of each picture element under heating. CONSTITUTION:A signal converting circuit 4 reads the gradation information corresponding to the picture element from a line buffer 6, and according to the output from a random number generating circuit 5, it selects one of the read-out gradation patterns shown in the figure and supplies current to the heating elements 1'. A plurality of patterns of the same gradation may be used in a cyclic manner instead of at random. Accordingly, since a thermal printing system involving development of colors to the saturation density is used, the present invention is stable to the changes in heat-sensitive paper used and the changes in environmental conditions, does not require paper of extremely smooth surface and enables duplication of copies. In addition, grain direction streaks and similar faults can be prevented, and a high-quality gradation image can be obtained.
