Abstract
PURPOSE:To increase gradation number without increasing dot number forming one image element and to express delicate gradation without lowering resolution, by properly combining a halftone level predetermined with black. CONSTITUTION:When the signals of an image having several steps of gradation, such as photographs are reproduced and recorded using heat-sensitive printing paper, halftone is developed by composing one image element with plural dots and controlling the time for flowing current to heating elements, and the same dot is printed by 2 memory accesses. For example, when gradations 3, 4, 5 are printed, the upper half of the image element is first printed by the first memory access in accordance with image information to develop the halftone of a predetermined level and again printed by the secnod memory access to color the predetermined dot to black, and the lower half of the element is likewise printed by the twice memory accesses.
