Abstract

PURPOSE:To easily correct unevenness of printed density, by providing a converting means for such a conversion as to correct the gradation of printing line input data for picture elements corresponding to respective heat generating resistors on the basis of printed density data read from a storage means. CONSTITUTION:The printed density of each picture element corresponding to each heat generating resistor in a line thermal head 4 is detected from a sample print row printed on a recording paper, by an optical printed density detecting means (5-8), and the printed density data thus obtained is stored in a storage means 12. At the time of printing, the gradation of printing line input data on the basis of each picture element corresponding to each heat generating resistor in the thermal head 4 is corrected by a D/T converter 15 for the printing line input data, based on the printed density data read from the storage means 12. For example, when an input gradation is high, an energization time for the resistors is prolonged to enlarge the size of dots transferred onto a recording paper 3, thereby reducing unevenness of printed density in a main scanning direction.
