Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain a smooth finishing state of molten metal during casting, and produce castings of steel ingot, cast steel, etc. having sound casting surfaces with good yields by dispersing a specific exothermic heat insulating material into specific collapsible particles for floating plate material.
CONSTITUTION: The collapsible floating plate material which prevents oxidation of molten steel consists of starch powder, oxide, glass powder, calcium carbonate powder and α starch. The exothermic heat insulating material that provides heat insulation effect consists of aluminum powder or calcium silicon powder or a combination of these powders and iron oxide powder. This exothermic heat insulating material is mixed and dispersed with and into the particles of the above-described collapsible floating plate material or the mixed powder which is bound and granulated by being added with a binder is mixed and dispersed. Consequently, these particles of floatng plate material effectively provide both effects of heat insulation and oxidation prevention of the molten steel, and by using this, the casting products having improved casting surfaces are produced easily with good yields.
