Abstract
PURPOSE: To cover molten steel surface, prevent oxidation of molten steel and prevent the decrease in temperature by composing the covering material by the respectively specific amounts of MgO, acidic or neutral slag-formable materials, foamable materials exhibiting heat retaining property, carbonaceous materials and aluminum residual ash.
CONSTITUTION: MgO; 10W30%, acidic or neutral slag-formable materials (e.g., calcined magnesia) 20W60%, foamable materials exhibiting heat retaining property (e.g., pearlite, obsidian, vermiculite) 10W30% and carbonaceous materials and aluminum residual ash 20% or under are compounded to obtain the covering material which is suited particularly for surface covering of the molten steel having undergone slag cutting. This product is also usable for surface covering of ordinary molten steel which is not subjected to slag cutting. As grain sizes of the respective components, fine powder of 1mm or under is desirable for the slag-forming materials and carbonaceous materials and grain sizes of about 1W5mm for the foamable materials.
