Abstract

PURPOSE: To considerably improve reaction efficiency and maintain COD below the reference value by subjecting the waste water cong. nitrogen compounds discharged from a stack gas desulfurizing and/or denitrating device to biological nitrogen removing treatment then supplying the same to a synthetic resin-packed tower.
CONSTITUTION: Inor. and org. flocculants and alkali agents are beforehand added to the waste water of stack gas desulfurization and denitration, to allow suspended matter and metallic salts to flocculate and the flocs are removed by settling or filtering. The waste water having undergone this pretreatment is treated in a biological nitrifying process 1, after which it is supplied to a biological denitrifying process 2, where org. matter such as methanol is added to the inflow water in the anaerobic state and is allowed to contact with denitrifying germs so that the NO2-N, etc. in the water are reduced to nitrogen gas. Thence, the water after the treatment is supplied into a resin tower 3 packed with synthetic adsorbent resins having medium basic or weak basic groups, whereby the COD components in the water are adsorbed in the resins and are thus removed.
