Abstract

PURPOSE:To perform such denitrification and dephosphorization that sludge with coagulated phosphorus can be easily concentrated, without using a cohesive settling pond, by adding a chemical coagulant to an aeration vessel during the secondary treatment of primarily treated sewage to highly coagulate and remove phosphorus. CONSTITUTION:The sewage primarily treated is conducted to a nitrification vessel 3 and then to a denitrifcation tank 4 through the aeration vessel 1 based on an activated sludge process and through a settling pond 2. Then, the sewage is aerated again in a re-aeration vessel 5 for about 30 minutes while the chemical coagulant 8 such as alumiium salt, iron salt, etc. is added to the sewage. Thus, the phosphorus of the sewage is adsorbed by a hydroxide of such as aluminium, iron, etc. Then, the adsorbed phosphorus is sedimented in a settling pond 6. If the re-aeration vessel 5 is of the buoy-up separation type, the coagulated sludge is buoyed up, separated, concentrated and removed from the surface of the liquid in the vessel and the sewage is thereafter removed of deposit further in the settling pond 6.
