Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent the leakage and to improve the life of a battery by using niobium pentoxide which forms an inter layer compound with lithium as a negative active material and an oxide which is capable of forming an insoluble compound at the potential higher than that of the negative active material as a positive active material. CONSTITUTION:A mixture of vanadium pentoxide, graphite, and fluororesin binder is molded to a disc-shaped positive active material 1, a mixture of niobium pentoxide, graphite, and fluororesin binder is molded to a disc-shaped negative active material 2, and a punched metal lithium disc 3 is put on the negative active material directly. A separator 4 comprising a glass matt impregnated with an electrolyte which is prepared by dissolving lithium perchlorate in a mixture of propylenecarbonate and 1,2-dimethoxyethane is provided between both active materials, and a stainless steel container 5 and cap 6 which serve also as a positive and negative terminal respectively are calked using a gasket 7. Thus the leakage by creep phenomena is prevented and the charge and discharge efficiency can be improved.
