CONSTITUTION:An optical semiconductor 2 is supported on a supporting base 3 housed in the cavity of a cylindrical metallic collar 1 which is polished at the end face. The center of the light emitting or receiving surface of the optical semiconductor is aligned to the central axis of a plug 1, and a rod lens 4 is provided on the front face thereof. On the other hand, the end face of a plug 5 inserted with an optical fiber 6 in the microhole of a metallic collar 5 is polished. The plugs 1 and 5 are butted by way of an adapter 7, and are rotated. When their axes align, the plugs are fixed. Thereby, the adjustment and assembling are made simple and the mass production is made possible.
