Abstract

PURPOSE:To make construction simple, eliminate the need for centering, make the plug suitable for volume production and enable the same to maintain high accuracy against mechanical impact by combining ferrules made of brittle material like glass and shells engaging therewith. CONSTITUTION:A sheel 13 made of, e.g., metals, having a taper 19 is secured by means of adhesive agent 12 to the stepped part 18 of a ferrule 1'. A single core cable 5 whose covering 4 is partly removed to expose its optical fiber 2 is inserted from the shell 13 side and the fiber 2 is passed into the small hole 3 having a diameter slightly larger than that of the fiber and a taper 14, whereby the cut end of the fiber 2 is aligned to the end face 7. The covering 4 is fixed by means of the inside surface of the shell 13 and adhesive agent 20 and the fiber 2 by means of the adhesive agent not illustrated into the small hole 3. The two ferrules which have undergone bevelling 16 on the outside circumferential surface 8 and minute bevelling 17 in the small hole 3 opening in the end face 7 are butted and engaged in a fitting sleeve.
