Abstract

PURPOSE:To decrease the connection losses of light by selecting the focal length of optical lenses at the fiber ends at predetermined values. CONSTITUTION:Connectors 3 are mounted to the ends of the optical fibers 1 to be connected, the connectors 3 are provided with spherical lense A 4 in the positions opposing to the end faces of the fibers 1. The connectors 3 oppose to each other and are fitted into an adapter 2. The light transmitted in one fiber 1 diverges from the fiber end, is made to parallel luminous fluxes by the lens 4, and is again focused in the opposing fiber 1 by the other lens 4. At this time, the lenses 4 and the fibers 1 are beforehand aligned and fixed to predetermined proper positions with high accuracy within the connectors 3. The focal length of the lenses of this case is made within a range of about 0.1-0.2mm., and the connection losses of the fibers is held at <=2dB.
