Abstract
PURPOSE:To realize the utmost application of the properties of a multimode fiber, by increasing the diameter of the beam radiated form a single mode fiber by means of a lens system to secure the matching with the basic mode of the multimode fiber. CONSTITUTION:A spherical lens 20 is provided within a case 20 to constitute an adaptor. The input and output fibers 21 and 22 are attached in a detachable way to both ends of the case 20 via optical fiber connectors 23 and 24 respectively. A convex lens 25 has the focal distance f1, and the distances between the lens main surface 25a and the fibers 21 and 22 are set at L1 and L2 respectively. In this case, the incident beam diameter of the fiber 21 is multiplied by m1 times by the lens 25, and the beam is connected to the fiber 22. The magnification ratio m1 is expressed in L2/L1. As a result, the utmost application is possible for the properties of a multimode fiber of the output side.
