Abstract
PURPOSE:To eliminate insertion loss of light in a simple constituion, by disposing optical fibers to propagate lights of differnt wavelengths of each end face of self- converging lens to converge lights of different wavelengths. CONSTITUTION:Wavelengths lambda1, lambda2 are set at 0.83 mum, 1.3mum, respectively. When a rod lens 5 of multicomponent glass material measuring 1 mm in diameter is used, period lengths L1, L2 of wavelengths lambda1, lambda2 become 11.14 mm, 12.58 mm, respectively. Therefore, when the length of the lens 5 is set to 50.1 mm, the light of wavelength lambda1 is converged at an end face B beneath the axis of the lens 5, while the light of wavelength lambda2 is converged at a point 0.2 mm behind the end face B above the axis of the lens 5. When optical fibers 8, 7 are secured to these positions respectively, the lights of wavelengths lambda1, lambda2 propagate through the optical fibers 8, 7. Epoxy resin or the like may be buried in the space between the end face B of the lens 5 and the optical fiber 7. Thus, in a simple constitution, the insertion loss of light may be almost completely eliminated.
