Abstract
PURPOSE:To obtain the optimum efficiency of coupling by dividing a second lens into two sections in the optical axis direction and adjustung a space between these divided sections when the coupler is formed by disposing the first and second lenses between the semiconductor laser and an optical fiber. CONSTITUTION:A coupler is formed by disposing a normal first lens 21 and a second lens 22 as a rod lens between a semiconductor laser 1 and an optical fiber 3 with a core 4. In this constitution, the second lens 22 is divided into 23 and 24 in the optical axis direction, and a space (d) is formed previously between 23 and 24. The optical fiber 3 is fast stuck to the projecting surface 8 of thelens 24 by using optical adhesives, and the lens 23 is fixed while the incident surface 11 is opposed to the first lens 21. According to such constitution, the space (d) between the reflection planes 9, 10 of the lenses 23, 24 is adjusted, the reflection factor of the incident end surface of the optical fiber 3 is decreased, and coupling is brought to the optimum condition.
