Abstract
PURPOSE:To reduce the variance of transmission loss between optical fibers by reducing a shift of an optical axis, by providing an optical fiber fixing groove and an optical waveguide while aligning the optical axes to a couple of left and right connectors by a photoresist method. CONSTITUTION:To the center part of a silicon substrate 1, a thin optical material plate 4 is bonded, and on the same axial line, optical fiber fixing grooves 2 and 2', a lens fixing groove 3, and an optical waveguide 5 are formed in parallel by a photoresist method. Then, the thin plate part 4 is cut at right angles to the waveguide 5 along a center alternate long and short dash line 7, and cut srufaces are finished by being polished. The thus formed substrate 1 is fixed on a base 10 with the cut end surfaces of the waveguide 5 opposed and optical fibers 11 and 11; having protective covers removed are set in the fixing grooves 2 and 2', and fixed by bonding optical fiber stoppers 8 and 8'. In the fixing groove 3, a spherical lens 12 is bonded having its optical axis aligned to the optical fibers 11 and 11'. Light beams of the fibers 11 and 11' are connected optically through a condenser lens 12 and the waveguide 5.
