Abstract

PURPOSE:To alleviate the mounting accuracy of lenses of two types having relatively long focal length associated by coupling a semiconductor laser and a single mode optical fiber. CONSTITUTION:A semiconductor laser chip 1, the first lens 8, the second lens 9 and a single mode optical fiber 2 are sequentially disposed in this order, and the laser 1 is coupled to the optical fiber 2. In this case, the ratio of the focal lengths of the lens 9 to the lens 8 is set to substantially equal to the geometric mean of the radius of the opical beam for wave guiding the optical fiber 2 and the raidus of the beams vertical to and parallel to the junction surface of the laser 1. Further, the interval of both the lenses 8, 9 is set to substantially equal to the sum of the focal lengths of the lenses 8, 9.
