Abstract
PURPOSE:To achieve the improvement in the rate of coupling by reducing the diameter of the ends of rod lenses only on one side, fuion-bonding and connecting the ends on the reduced diameter side and optical fibers and connecting the optical fibers to each other by way of the rod lenses or to terminal apparatus. CONSTITUTION:Only one side of the end of a rod lens 1 is heated and elongated by a heat source 6. An optical fiber 2 is fusion-bonded to the end on the reduced- diameter side of the rod lens 1 obtained in this way by using an electrode 3. By using the constitution obtained by such process, direct connection, selective connection by a prism 7, branched connection by a half mirror 8 and the terminal connection with a light emitting diode 5 may be accomplished. Since the outside diameter of one end of the rod lens 1 is constituted to a smaller diameter in this way, the connection with the optical fiber 2 is easy and highly accurate, the occurrence of misalignment after the connection is obviated and the stably high coupling rate may be obtained.
