Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain an optical fiber connector of simple construction, easy connection work and no reflection losses by inserting optical fibers into cores and suitably selecting the radii of curvature of the end faces thereof. CONSTITUTION:Ends of optical fibers 1, 1' are inserted and fixed at the central parts of respective cores 3, 3' and the end faces of these cores 3, 3' including the optical fibers 1, 1' are worked to a spherical face of a radius of curvature R. The centers of the cores 3, 3' are aligned and the end faces of the optical fibers 1, 1' are contacted with themselves and are pressed, whereby the foregoing both optical fibers are connected. Here, it is possible to make the inter-end face spacing 2g of the cores of both optical fibers 1, 1' less than optical wavelength lambda by selecting the radius of curvature R of the spherical face of the end parts of the cores 3, 3' at above the value selected by formula I. Hence, reflection losses may be eliminated owing to the tunnel effect of light and yet the construction becomes simpler and the work may be made easier.
