Abstract
PURPOSE:To stabilize the discharge voltage of a battery and protect is from swelling, by using iron disulfides of a specific grain size as a positive electrode active material for batteries using an organic electrolyte. CONSTITUTION:In a positive electrde case 3, are seated separators 4, 4' which are impregnated with an organic electrolyte and a positive electrode 1. On the separator 4', is mounted a negative electrode case 6 having negative electride lighium 5 attached to the case 6 under pressure with a collector 7 interposed therebetween. Both cases 3, 6 are hermetically clinched with a packing interposed therebetween to form a battery. The positive electrode 1 of this battery uses iron disulfide (FeS2) as its active material. The grain of iron disulfide is larger than 300 mesh. For example, mined natural pyrite is ground. Those passed through a sieve of 50 mesh but remained on a sieve of 300 mesh is used as a raw material for the positive electrode active material, to which are added a conductive material and tetrafluororesin as a binder. The mixture is formed into a sheet by rollers, which is then punched to produce the positive electrode 1.
