Abstract

PURPOSE:To minimize the decomposition of silver(II)oxide used as a positive electrode and contained in a battery which includes a negative electrode made of zinc, and decrease the internal resistance of the battery by adding cadmium sulfide to the positive mixture, and by thus adding a conductive agent other than a graphite to the mixture. CONSTITUTION:A positive mixture 2 of a battery, which is constituted by combination of positive electrode made of silver(II)oxide and a zinc negative electrode, is added with cadmium sulfide. The positive mixture 2 may be added with a cadmium sulfide-nickel mixture instead of cadmium sulfide alone. The proportions of nickel and cadmium sulfide to the positive mixture 2 are preferred to be 5-35wt% and 2-15wt%, respectively. For instance, a positive mixture 2 consisting of 50- 93wt% of silver(II)oxide, 5-35wt% of a nickel powder and 2-15wt% of cadmium sulfide is compressed and packed into a case 1, before a sealing plate 6 packed with a gel-like zinc negative electrode 5 is placed over the mixture 2 with a separator 3 interposed between the mixture 2 and the electrode 5, and the whole constitutes a battery. Consequently, the use of a conductive agent other than a graphite minimizes the decomposition of silver(II)oxide, prevents any gas generation, and enables the internal resistance to be decreased.
