PURPOSE:To detect defects of the outer and inner walls of the mouth of a bottle by providing the 1st light source applying a light aslant from above to the outer wall of the mouth of the bottle and the 2nd light source applying a light also aslant from below to the outer wall of the mouth of the bottle and by detecting the scattered light of the light applied from these light sources. CONSTITUTION:Since a set of projectors 31 and 32 out of projectors 31-34 irradiate the outer wall on one side of the mouth of the bottle in a visual field aslant from above, normal reflected light from the outer wall having no defects does not fall on a light receiver 20 and only the scattered light caused by defects falls on the light receiver 20. Moreover, since the other set of projectors 33 and 34 irradiate the outer wall on the other side of the mouth of the bottle in the visual field aslant from below, normal reflected light from the outer wall having no defects does not fall on the light receiver 20, while only the scattered light caused by defects falls on the light receiver 20. A defect indicating signal is delivered only when an electric signal indicates any defects in the mouth of the bottle, whereby inspection with little chance of finding fault can be performed.
