Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a liq. composition for forming a smooth metal oxide coat which may not get cloudy by reacting fatty acid and alcohol with metal alcohlate represented by a specified formula.
CONSTITUTION: A reactive liq. mixture is prepared by adding a reaction accelerator such as inorg. or org. acid to metal alcoholate represented by general formula M(OR)m (where M is Mg, Ca, Zn, Al, Zr, Sn or Ta, R is alkyl or aryl and m is the valence of M), fatty acid or fatty acid anhydride and alcohol. The mixture is applied to a substrate of glass, ceramics, silicon, copper, iron, silver or the like and heat treated at about 150°C in air to form a metal oxide coat. To the mixture may be added a glassy substance forming agent or an org. polymer film forming agent.
