Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a transparent solid titanium oxide film by coating a soln. of a specified org. titanium cpd. onto a substrate followed by heating.
CONSTITUTION: Alkyl titanate of formula II (where R is 1W20C alkyl and n=1W 30) is reacted with acid of formula HX (where X is an atom or a group with higher electronegativity than that of OR) to prepare a soln. of a cpd. of formula I (where Z is OR or X, l=0, 1 or 2, m=0, 1 or 2 and l+m=2). This soln. is then coated onto a substrate such as Al foil or polyester film to form a uniform transparent layer stable to moisture. By heating the layer to 90W220°C with hot air or the like a titanium oxide film is formed, thereby giving a thin film suitable for use as a high refractive index dielectric.
