Abstract

PURPOSE: To raise the safety of operation and the efficiency of reaction, by a method in which liquid products obtained in the liquefaction of coal are mixed together under a specific condition and the mixture is used as a solvent for coal liquefaction.
CONSTITUTION: A slurry obtained by mixing coal 8 and a solvent 9 in a stirred tank 1 is heated to a given temperature by a heating furnace 2 and then sent to a dissolving tank 3 where is liquefied. Then, liquid from the tank 3 is sent to a distillation tower 4 to fractionate it into a light oil of a boiling point of 200°C or less, a component A of a boiling point of 200W210°C, a component B of a boiling point of 211W230°C, a component C of a boiling point of 231W250°C, a component D of a boiling point of 251W350°C, and a component E of a boiling point of 351°C or more. Then, the components B, C, and D are hydrogenated in hydrogenation towers 5, 6, and 7, respectively, and then products obtained are mixed with the light oil fraction of a boiling point of 200W210°C. Then, 50% or more said mixture is mixed with 50% or less component E of a boiling point of 351°C or more and then the mixture is cycled as a solvent 9 for coal liquefaction to the stirred tank 1.
